Pioneers
They came, they came so many came, from lands beyond the sea.
They brought their courage, hopes and dreams, they longed for liberty.
They brought their faith, their strength, their skills
They felled the mighty tree; and planted in the fertile sod.
Seeds of prosperity.
The farmer and the minor came, the scholar and the fool.
The lawyer, priest and teacher came,
And hands that knew the tool.
They came and many gave their all
To make this country great.
They build the churches; build the schools,
Then set the cities gate.
They build the rail-roads; and the ports.
Around this land so wide;
Fought droughts and floods, fought fear and hate;
Then set the soldiers shrine.
Thus, many years have come, have gone,
Beneath the cross on high.
Their sweet and toil; their joys and fears
Have all but passed us by.
In freedoms sweet repose we dwell,
Beneath Australia’s sun.
Pay homage to the wondrous deeds
Our pioneers have done.
